How to get to Thessaloniki
Airport
“Makedonia” International Airport (SKG) is located at Mikra, 16 km southeast of central Thessaloniki. The Airport connects Thessaloniki with approximately 31 countries and more than 60 foreign cities with direct flights (mainly Munich and Frankfurt). Athens International Airport (ATH) can be an alternative but a domestic flight to Thessaloniki Airport is required. Flights from Athens to Thessaloniki are frequent (8-12 per day).
At the Airport you will find currency exchange, automatic teller machines (ATM), duty free shops, car rental companies etc.
The Airport is connected directly with the city center via bus lines No 78 and No 78N (night). Transit bus service is provided between the Airport and the city of Thessaloniki, with connections to the Central Railway Station and the “Makedonia” Regional Coach Terminal. Bus service runs every 30 minutes and the journey to the city center takes about 40 – 50 minutes. Taxi service is also available outside the “Makedonia” Airport Terminal building. The journey from (to) the Airport to (from) the center of Thessaloniki is about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. The fare to and from the airport is normally between 20-30 €.
Train
The New Railway station is the central passenger terminal of Thessaloniki and it is located at Monastiriou Street and provides connection to Athens.

Parking
In the city there are many municipal or private car parks. The cost for the first hour ranges from 2.5 to 4 € and it is reduced for each subsequent hour.
Currency/Banking
Greece is a member of the Eurozone and the official currency is Euro (€). You can buy euros from banks, exchange offices in the city center and the airport “Macedonia”, while foreign exchange services offered in many hotels.
The opening hours of banks are: Monday to Thursday 8:00 – 14:30 & Friday 8:00 – 13:30.
Shopping hours
The regular shopping hours on weekdays are 9:00 – 21:00 and Saturdays 9:00 – 20:00
Meals
Lunch time is usually from 13 to 15h and dinner from 20 until 23h. However you can find places to eat fast food open 24 hours.
